Welcome to Jeff Higgott's UK Lepidoptera web site.
I began recording the moths in our Rushmere St. Andrew (Suffolk)
garden in August 1998. Without having the time or inclination
to build a large collection of set individuals I wanted to retain
a permanent record of the species I encountered. A year later
I had a shoe box and a half of 6x4 photographic prints - a collection
which was completely unmanageable as a reference source.
Over time I have put together this site as the number of species
has continued to grow. Following requests from friends the site
is now published. The vast majority of the1300+ species represented
have been recorded from our garden. The garden lepidoptera list
at the time of writing stands at almost 940 (of over 1170 species
that have been recorded in my home tetrad).
This site is a personal collection of my own photos. In no way
is it intended to compete with (and it hopefully compliments)
Ian Kimber's more than excellent UK
Moths site which you really should have bookmarked by now.
Please check out the list of sponsors
whose contributions have helped make this site devoid of pop-up
adverts and bandwidth restrictions. I am truly grateful. I am
also extremely grateful to Nigel Odin, Mike Marsh, Rob Harvey,
John Langmaid, Brian Goodey, Martin Honey and Jon Clifton for
their tireless assistance and support.
