Welcome to the second incarnation of Jeff Higgott's UK Lepidoptera
web site.
I began recording the moths in our Rushmere St. Andrew (Suffolk)
garden in mid-1998. Without having the time or inclination to
build a large collection of set individuals I wanted to retain
a permanent record of the species I encountered. A year later
I had a shoe box and a half of 6x4 photographic prints - a collection
which was completely unmanageable as a reference source.
Over time I have put together this site as the number of species
has continued to grow. Following requests from friends the site
is now published. The vast majority of the 830+ species represented
have been recorded from our garden. The garden lepidoptera list
at the time of writing (24 November 2002) stands at a little over
720.
This site is purely a personal collection of my own photos. In
no way is it intended to compete with (and it hopefully complements)
Ian Kimber's more than excellent UK
Moths site which you really should have bookmarked by now.
Please check out the list of sponsors
whose contributions have helped make this site devoid of pop-up
menus and bandwidth restrictions. I am truly grateful.
